Wow, it happened. I'm a bit in shock, although incredibly excited, that the Raiders are headed to Vegas. I'm a San Diego native so I always equate The Raiders with Oakland and remember when they were in Los Angeles. Their fans are bad-ass, tough as nails and wear Raider pride everywhere they go; on their car, on their clothing and on their sleeve. Raider Nation boosts serious loyalty and enviable tenacity. I'm hoping they're not too upset their boys are headed across the Mojave to our city of neon and no last calls.
On another hand, I think it's absolutely inspiring that Las Vegas has announced the acquisition of not one but two professional sports teams within months. This means we can take our LIttles to a Golden Knights hockey game, a Raiders football game, throw some stickers-of-allegiance on our car and begin to relish in some serious Vegas sports Localism that extends beyond The Strip's sportsbooks and UNLV home games.
Maybe even become charter season ticket holders?
Increase our childrens' sense of local pride?
Our Vegas babes can watch professionals in-action doing the sports they love. Imagine an elementary school's tag football team playing one day in Summerlin then watching their Raiders the next; what a field trip!
We're hoping the Raiders' third town is a Charm. After all, I think they'll enjoy becoming Desert Sons.
